October 24-27

Miss Rickabaugh’s 4th grade
Weekly News
October 24-27

Welcome to the 2nd quarter!

The entire class has completed their personal AR goal!!! I am very happy to give the WHOLE class an AR party this afternoon, complete with hot chocolate and a science movie.

2nd quarter AR goals are up online. For your student to earn the party this quarter they must do above and beyond their goal; 150%. They can do it! We love reading!
Please keep up on the reading logs for homework credit. The log is checked daily.

Language Arts: The weekly story is called “Making A Splash”. We are working with nonfiction stories. The focus is deciphering the writer’s purpose and searching for essential details.
We are beginning Book Club again. We will be reading the novel “Because of Winn Dixie.”

Math: We have started math centers twice a week, typically Tuesday and Thursday. We are in Chapter 4 and learning all about multiplying by one digit numbers. Students need to always SHOW THEIR WORK!

Bible: Daily: we do a devotional, take prayer requests, and pray.
We are in the fourth week of studying Acts (just like Twin Lakes Church).
This week’s Memory verse:

Ephesians 6:1-5 (NIV)

6 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.

History/Social Studies: We are in Unit 2: Early People in California. The class is diving into how the early Europeans came to California and how the Spanish changed how the Indians lived in California. The class will be divided into groups to further study a group of Indians and complete an oral presentation of the research.

Science: We are in the second unit: Describing Matter. We are learning how to take scientific notes. We are also enjoying some wisdom from Bill Nye the Science Guy.
