May 19th:
Carnival 5-8pm. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS
Language Arts: We are reading “Snowflake Bentley”. The class
is discussing how to draw conclusions, make generalizations and imagery and
figurative language. The class is continuing to work on their grammar and
editing as they are writing and peer editing. It is essential they are writing
full and complete sentences!
Book Club: We fully
engaged in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We are doing special
projects, writing, and discussing this novel as we read. This is a joyful book
and we are all sad to put this novel down.
Please have your student
take AR quizzes at home when they complete a book. They should also be writing
on the May reading log to record the at home reading, this is in the student
homework folder!

Math: In math, we ALWAYS show our work. Each week
the class participates in whole group instruction, independent practice, in
small groups and completes center rotations twice a week.
We are in Chapter 12.
This chapter is about measurement, perimeter and area. This week we will be
focusing on problem solving, perimeter, area, and the area of irregular figures.
Bible: Daily we do a devotional, take prayer requests
and pray.
The lesson this week is
lesson 21. The focus is on humility.
This week’s memory verse
is John 1:17-18
17 For the
law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the
one and only Son, who is himself God and[a] is in
closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
The students are now
writing their entire verse! No more fill in the blank. Your student is getting
prepared for next year’s requirement. They can do it! Their verse is also a
great venue to practice their handwriting and cursive. Keep up the good work.
History/Social Studies:
The class is in unit 5
California’s Government. We have been learning about conventions, amendments,
responsibilities, laws, forms of government, federal vs. state, US constitution
and the Bill of Rights. They have been asking great questions! We will be
wrapping this up this week and reviewing at the beginning of next week. The
test is on Wednesday May 24th. Look for a review page coming home
soon.
Science:
We are starting our unit
on electricity! This week we will be learning about the paths for electricity;
interactions between charged particles, circuits, and electric current.
