Weekly
News
March 13th-17
Language Arts: We are reading “Animals Come Home to Our
National Parks”. The focus this week is on summarizing and using a dictionary.
Book Club: This book is
titled “Patty Reed’s Doll”, the story of the Donner Party, by Rachel K.
Laurgaard.
We are working on
vocabulary words, diary summaries and comprehension questions and games as the
characters travel West.
Please have your student
take AR quizzes at home when they complete a book. To get to the AR party
student must meet 150% of their goal. Please see your student's homework folder
for more information. We are at the half way mark and I personally met with
each student last to talk about their books and how they are meeting their
goal. In their homework folder last week, they were given their academic goal,
AR party goal and how much they have completed.

Math: In math, we ALWAYS show our work. Each week
the class participates in whole group instruction, independent practice, in
small groups and completes center rotations twice a week.
We are finishing Chapter
9 this week. This chapter dives into decimals. We will be looking at how
decimals relate to place value, number lines, multiple step problems, rounding,
adding and subtracting decimals.
CHAPTER 9 TEST is on FRIDAY!
Bible: Daily we do a devotional, take prayer requests
and pray. The focus in Bible this week is disciples’ reaction after the
resurrection.
This week’s memory verse
is John 1:5-6
John 1:5-6
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has
not overcome[a]it.
6 There was
a man sent from God whose name was John.
The students are now
writing their entire verse! No more fill in the blank. Your student is getting
prepared for next year’s requirement. They can do it! Their verse is also a
great venue to practice their handwriting and cursive. Keep up the good work.
History/Social Studies:
The class is beginning
Unit 4 in Social Studies. This unit is the growth and development of California
since 1850. This week’s focus is on how the gold rush changed California’s
economy and the affect the different people added to California as our state.
Science:
We are in Chapter 6:
Learning about the Earth. The class has learned and outlined their vocabulary words
and now discovering “dirt”. What is in the dirt? Why do we need dirt? What are
the different layers?
