Home and School Club minutes October 14th

HOME AND SCHOOL CLUB MINUTES – OCTOBER 14^TH, 2013

 

        I.            RECENT EVENTS AND FEEDBACK

A.      Move Night: - raised a little over $100

B.      Night at the Races:  very good turn out

C.      Drive for School: ends Oct. 17^th

D.      Target: fundraiser – Target donated $1 every time someone went to their website and clicked somewhere

E.       Brainstorming about fundraising ideas for next year.  There is a jog-a-thon coming up.  A new schedule will be sent out at the beginning of 2014.

F.       BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT:

                                                               i.      CEC’s (pre-school) back to school night was the next night and it was difficult for some families.

                                                             ii.      Discussed some options for future Back to School Nights.

 

      II.            UPCOMING EVENTS

A.      Science Night/Fair:

                                                               i.      Planned for November 14^th, but the date could change. 

                                                             ii.      Decisions on what the stations will be will occur at the end of October.

                                                            iii.      Experiments will be set up in the classrooms. 

                                                           iv.      Food will be set up in the church lobby – most likely a burrito bar. 

                                                             v.      The teachers run the stations. Grades K-1 grades will have 4 stations; grades 2-3 will have 4 stations; 4-5 will have 4 stations, and middle school will have 4 stations

                                                           vi.      VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to lead guests (families) through the rotations with the kids.  VOLUNTEERS also needed to stay with the experiments and assist teachers as needed.  Miss Rickabaugh will tell us how many volunteers are needed.

B.      Book Fair:

                                                               i.      Books arrive on the 31st.

                                                             ii.      Fall fair runs Oct 31 – Nov 8

                                                            iii.      Parent VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for 1-2 hour shifts.

                                                           iv.      An email will go out about this event.

C.      Mission Project:    

                                                               i.      Discussed fundraiser for orphanage in Mexico.

                                                             ii.      To occur sometime in May 2014

                                                            iii.      Meg will follow up with her contact at the orphanage to see what types of things they need  

D.      Auction:   

                                                               i.      Auction will be live and silent.  Live: March 7, 2014   Silent: March 1-7, 2014

                                                             ii.      VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to follow up with potential donors

1.       Follow up with donators either via email, phone, letters, etc. whatever is manageable.

                                                            iii.      Each class will do a class project for the auction.  Classes will need to start thinking about what they want to do.  Can contact Stephanie (last name?) for ideas and past examples.
